Welcome to The Unseen Way. Have you ever wondered how a life with a visual impairment looks like? Are you partially sighted or blind and looking for inspiration, motivation, or just want to learn something new? Are you sighted and know someone with a visual impairment or are you just interested in this topic?  you’re in the right place.

My name is Pavlína (Lina), I’m 22 years old and live in the Czech Republic. At the age of 5 I was diagnosed with the Stargardt’s disease, a juvenile form of macular degeneration. In short, it means that I am gradually losing my eyesight and at the moment I am legally blind, I have only a small percentage of peripheral vision, I am sensitive to light and I have difficulty recognizing colors. Although I can detect the outlines of large objects, I cannot walk without a white cane and work without a  screen reader. None of this, however, stopped me from living an active life and fulfilling my dreams. On the contrary, I think that my visual impairment brought me to the things that I enjoy. I love traveling, languages and music and I am interested in latest assistive technology. I have completed my bachelor’s degree in English and German philology and I am currently studying a follow-up master’s program. I can speak Czech, English, German and can understand some Dutch

This blog was created because I enjoy working and motivating another visually impaired people and sharing my experience with them. Moreover, I believe that it could raise awareness that the blind and partially sighted are a part of our society although sometimes they do not get enough attention or understanding.

Enjoy your stay
